When Midir fell in love with and married her, his rejected first wife Fuamnach became jealous and cast a series of spells on her. First Fuamnach turned Étaín into a pool of water, then into a worm, and then into a fly. Fuamnach then created a wind that sent the fly far until it fell on some rocks near the sea, where remained for seven years. After all that time, Aengus found the fly and wanted to bring it in the form of Étaín to Midir, but Fuamnach created another wind, and the fly fell into a glass of wine.
The wine was swallowed (together with the fly) by a pregnant woman, thereby enabling Étaín's rebirth. Years went by, and Étaín married King Eochaid Airem; however, Midir learned of this and journeyed to Tara (Eochaid's capital) to bring his wife back home. After several happenings, Midir and Étaín escaped from Eochaid's palace and returned home, pursued by the king. Thanks to Midir's magical abilities Étaín remained his wife and Eochaid was fooled.
An agreement was reached to develop Etain into a NATO facility and station United States Air Force tactical fighter-bombers there by the end of 1954.
As the 388th was originally formed in December 1942, and the 49th was formed in January 1941, the older wing's heritage was preserved by tranferring its lineage to Etain.
Therefore many personnel from Etain were transferred to RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom to bring the 48th TFW there at full strength, and some were transferred to other USAF facilities in France to fill manpower shortages.
Etain: Okay… what the cable companies are licensed under national legislation, which deals only with broadcasting transmission, so the requirements in their licenses were to upgrade to digital television.
Etain: Well, I can only work within the legal framework that I have, under the current legal framework I’m not in a position to do that, under the new EU framework, which is coming into effect next year that may possibly be a possibility.
Etain: Yes, and we took a decision there in the early part of the summer and have working parties and bilateral contacts between ourselves and the operators at the moment to work that one through, so there will be a system where you can have a single bill covering all your expenses.
