Etisalat Misr (Etisalat Egypt) - Egypt’s First 3.5G network. It Started it's Transmisson in 30th of April 2007 (the official launch). 1982, Etisalat was the first telecom operator in the region to introduce a mobile phone service, and was one of the early adopters of GSM technology, introducing it to customers in 1994. Since then it has established itself as a regional pioneer by introducing both 3G and MMS in 2003, and most recently, the Blackberry service in 2006. .

Launch

The launch was scheduled to be on February 2007, but was delayed many times. It was delayed to first of March then the first of April. Finally the launch was on the fist of May.

First of May is the Labor Day., which is a vacation in Egypt. Some people thought that launching in a vacation day would minimize the load on the network which lead into reduce the errors and problems might rise in the launch. But what happened was the contrary, as a vacation Etisalat was fully loaded .a lot of people who reserved their numbers through the dial reservation service came to purchase the special numbers they already booked.

Dial Reservation

For the first time in Egypt Etisalat presents the service of reserving your favorite number. A web page was published on Etisalat website to enable customers to reserve their favorite numbers. The range 4XXXXXX was the only available range for reservation. People were able to reserve numbers like the marriage date for example (011 4112006) if the marriage date was 4th November 2006. It was reported that number of people who did the reservation was more than half million. This service was released before the official launch of the service. With this number of customes who reserved their numbers even before the official launch, Etisalat acquired the first operator in Egypt that grasps this number of customers in the period of time.

This successful service gave Etisalat a bais in the Mobile operators comptetion.

Customer Plans

Etisalat provides two rate plans for customers. 1- Post paid plan. With this plan customer will pay for his calls in the end of the bill period (the end of the month) This plan offers low rate for the call, but there is monthly subscription fees. 2- Pre paid plan. With this plan customer pays for this calls before making them. User can buy a scratch card with predefined value.

Tax Free scratching cards

Etisalat for the first time in Egypt offers tax free scratching card, which means you pay exactly the value of the card and your account is credited with the same value. Other operators force users to pay the tax on the scratch card and also debit an amount for the administration fees!!!. This is a great point for marketing in Egypt.

3.5G

Mobile TV

One of the services delivered by Etisalat was the Mobile TV, where you can stream live TV channels live with good quality and speed.

National Roaming:

A new service is supported now in Egypt by all mobile operators, that enables any subscriber of any operator to use any other operators’ coverage network. Now If you are an Etisalat subscriber and you don’t have a network coverage in your area(as the covering is still in progress) you still be able to use etisalat services through any other network coverage.

Etisalat benefits the most from this agreement as this would empower the coverage of the network ,which the main concern of any customer, using the existing infrastructure of the other operators.

Over the Air Recharge:

One more service from Etisalat, the ability to recharge your pre-paid line with any amount of money from 1 to 250 LE. Usually other operators provide a predefined fixed value for the scratching cards with certain values. But now with etisalat you can recharge with any amount you like. You don’t have to buy a scratch card with predefined value, and suffer the hassle of over-scratching or invalid cards (as what happen using the normal recharging operations). Also you still got credit for what you paid, unlike the other operators where you got percentage deduction of the actual paid money.

This new service has proven that Etisalat still has a lot to offer for the Egyptian market and Egyptian customer.
