Mr. Krabs is the penny-pinching owner of The Krusty Krab, a fast food restaurant in Bikini Bottom. He identifies himself as a sailor, and he did serve in the Navy (earning the nickname Armor Abs Krabs). During his service, he was the chief janitor on the S.S. Gourmet and head chef on the S.S. Diarrhea. Sometimes when he appears onscreen, sailor's music is heard; Krabs uses sea-faring vocabulary he calls his staff as 'crew', and the disagreement as 'mutiny', calls the bathroom the head while his laugh is also appropriate ('Ar 'ar 'ar 'ar 'ar'). In contrast to his namesake, Mr. Krabs is something of a miser; he is known to go insane if he has to give up so much as $2. In "Born Again Krabs", he gave SpongeBob up to the Flying Dutchman for sixty-two cents, but repented later. Much of the comic relief of his character is due to his enormous love of money. When customers leave the restaurant because they don't like the food (which is usually due to SpongeBob or Squidward's innaccuracies), he uses catchphrases - these include "That's me money walkin' out the door!", or "There's gonna be a few changes around here!" However, he's a caring and thoughtful crab; he appreciates his employees, SpongeBob and Squidward Tentacles (who help keep his restaurant afloat), (except for in the episode Where's Gary? where he was extremely unsympathetic when SpongeBob told him that he lost Gary) dotes on his daughter, Pearl Krabs, and in one episode, he found his second love (after money), Mrs. Puff (in Krusty Love). Mr. Krabs' arch-rival is Sheldon J. Plankton, the owner of rival restaurant The Chum Bucket across the street from his establishment. He has a mother, Mama Krabs, who lives in a near identical version of his anchor home, except it is pink. Mr. Krabs' birthday, revealed on his driver's license in the episode "Sleepy Time", is November 30, 1942. His address was also revealed to be 3541 Anchor Way. Mr. Krabs served in the Navy, where he earned the nickname "Armor Abs Krabs". However in the episode "[[SpongeBob Meets the Strangler/Pranks A Lot]]", there is a contradiction, and Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob that his nickname in the Navy was in fact "Old Golden Claws". Mr. Krabs tries to keep it cheap, when purchasing anything, even though he's the richest crab in the ocean, which often results in Pearl becoming extremely disappointed in her gifts, such as the infamous squeaky boots. Career

Eugene's father, Viktor Krabs, was a poor Ukrainian immigrant from whom young Eugene learned the importance of saving money. In the episode "Krusty Krab Training Video", we learn that Viktor gave his son a nickel which he has cherished and brought him a deep love for money. He learned the importance of saving money. However, after losing all of his savings in a failed investment, Mr. Krabs wound up working as the janitor on the S.S. Gourmet, gazing longingly at the elegant meals the chefs cooked. So Krabs didn't see anything special when a broken passenger from third class named Biff Quahog told him about a delicious burger he had created. Krabs stole the treasure from Quahog's room, discovered it was only a message in a bottle, and threw it, with disgust, into an empty shoe box. After coming home from the war, he remained in a deep depression until one day, while looking for his father's will, he found the old shoe box. Inside the bottle was a recipe labelled Quahog Burger. When Krabs cooked it, he found it delectable. He decided to go into business selling it, and built his restaurant by renovating the local (failing) retirement home, "The Rusty Crab," which he decided to turn into a restaurant and added a K to "Rusty" and replacing the C with a K ("Krab"). It's possible that he is a descendant of the krabs from the prehistoric times who say "Money!". Some believe that this is not true because Mr. Krab's descent is from Ukraine. This is contradicted by the Tectonic Plates Theory. Brief summary: N/A Time/Date: When Patrick arrives, it was 3:00PM. The Krusty Krab has come close to going out of business with such rival restaurants as the aforementioned Chum Bucket, Pretty Patties, and The Shell Shack to name but three. The building is also in serious disrepair, as its walls ooze green slime and has seriously faulty wiring. Mr. Krabs idea of renovations is simply putting band-aids on cracks in the walls (this obviously does not work).

In the movie, he now owns The Krusty Krab 2, right next to the original burger stand, where SpongeBob is the manager (ironically, besides the title, it is not much different from his old job). The Krusty Krab 2 is an identical version of the Krusty Krab. ...

He appears in Lights, Camera, PANTS! In the PC version, in his office in the Krusty Krab, he can't count his money anymore and a doctor is helping. So SpongeBob used the Golden Spatula to make the Royal Krabby Patty. Krabs eats it and now can count money. His role in the special episode of "The New Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy" is a news reporter.

Near Death Experiences

There are two instances where Eugene Krabs almost died:

In "The Lost Mattress", SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward removes a poor mattress from Mr. Krabs because he complained it caused his back to hurt. SpongeBob and his friends later discover that Mr. Krabs keeps his money in that particular mattress. "What? Haven't you heard of a bank?" asks Squidward. "No!" Krabs replies. Mr. Krabs falls in a "cash coma", in which he would not regain consciousness until his wealth is retrieved. SpongeBob, Squidward and Patrick find the lost mattress at the dump, but can't get it from the guard worm in the dump. Mr. Krabs ends up landing on it after being kicked out of the hospital for having no insurance. Mr. Krabs is happily revived but not before Squidward has been brutally mauled by the guard worm many times. The Lost Mattress is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season four. ... In medicine, a coma (from the Greek koma, meaning deep sleep) is a profound state of unconsciousness. ...

In "Born Again Krabs", Mr. Krabs died after eating an old Krabby Patty, and was taken to Davy Jones' Locker by the Flying Dutchman. However, the Flying Dutchman let him off the hook if he would help him settle a bet- Would Mr. Krabs sell SpongeBob's soul for a couple of bucks? Mr. Krabs agreed that he would, but SpongeBob proved to be such an annoyance that the Flying Dutchman gave him back. There has been no mention of the event since. Born Again Krabs is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 3 Brief summary: When Mr. ... Davy Jones Locker is an idiom for the bottom of the sea — the resting place of drowned seamen. ...

Trivia

  • In Greece, crabs are associated with misery and penny-pinching, elements of Mr. Krabs' character. The connection is made by the proverbial saying that the miser keeps crabs in his pockets so that no hands ever enter to get money out of them. It is not known if the show's creators were aware of this.
