Eugenia luschnathiana is a fruit tree native to the state of Bahia, Brazil. The fruit is known as pitomba, and is also called uvalha do campo, ubaid do campo or uvalheira in Brazil. It shares the name pitomba with another South American fruit, Talisia esculenta. The tree grows to 20 or 30 feet (6-9 m) high and produces bright orange-yellow fruit 1 to 1 1/4 inches (2.5-3.2 cm) long. The fruit has a thin, tender skin, and a soft, juicy, golden-yellow pulp. It is aromatic, slightly acid and faintly resinous in flavor. The fruit is used for jellies, preserves and carbonated beverages.
