Plot

After Edmund Collins dies, his granddaughter, Kate Collins, is tasked with giving the eulogy at his funeral. As the Collins family joins their widowed mother/grandmother, Charlotte Collins, the family's dysfunctions and idiosyncrasies come to light. Kate's father, Daniel Collins, is an "obscure foreign film" actor whose career peaked at age 8 when he appeared in a peanut butter commercial. Kate's uncle, Skip Collins, is an overly hormonal father of overly hormonal twin sons (Fred & Ted) who managed to run their mother out of their family. Kate's aunt, Lucy Collins, is a lesbian who has been verbally chastised since a younger age by Kate's other aunt, Alice Collins. Alice also has managed to raise three silent children and marry a silent husband because of her persistent talking and badgering. This article does not cite its references or sources. ... Pornographic films are motion pictures that explicitly depict sexual intercourse and other sexual acts, typically for the purpose of sexual arousal in the viewer. ...

During the film, Kate continually tries to come up with a Eulogy while dealing with a previous romance with Ryan with whom she ran away from after being caught by Ryan's mother after coming home while Ryan & Kate were making out. Kate gets reacquainted with Ryan (after trying to dodge him several times around town) and their relationship reignites.

Tired of the family feuding, Charlotte tries to commit suicide by overdosing on a medication. After having her stomach pumped and after rejoining the family, she tries again by jumping out of a moving van on a bridge but is unsuccessful again.

Ultimately, per Edmund's will, he is placed in a casket and floated out on a local lake in a boat. Ted & Fred, having previously filled the casket with gasoline, start shooting fiery arrows from a bow at the casket. During this time Kate finally gives her Eulogy. One of the arrows eventually hits the casket and a moment later the casket, completely unexpectedly, explodes in a fiery explosion and completely demolishes the boat, body, and casket in a splintery mess. “Petrol” redirects here. ... This image depicts a typical bow, as made by the Huns, lying against a tree. ...

At Edmund's will reading, it is revealed that Edmund has three families that don't know about each other. This explains Edmund's inability to keep names and number of children straight over the years. Kate is tasked with finding and telling the other two families of Edmund's demise. In the common law, a will or testament is a document by which a person (the testator) regulates the rights of others over his property or family after death. ...

USCCB - (Film and Broadcasting) - Eulogy (714 words)
Her grandmother (Piper Laurie) informs her that it was Edmund's dying wish that Kate deliver the eulogy, which proves no easy task given the fact that practically no one in the family has any kind words to say about him.
Failing to take advantage of the considerable talent amassed, "Eulogy" consists mostly of a series of episodic scenes strung together in which the estranged brood alternate between bickering and bonding, the latter facilitated, in several instances, by marijuana.
Equally troubling is the film's dyspeptic depiction of family life, which portrays familial relationships as burdens to be endured rather than as sources of comfort and support.
Val Lewton (1904 - 1951) Eulogy (998 words)
This fairly early peak example of his talent is a nerve-twitching whodunit giving the creepy impression that human beings and "things" are interchangeable and almost synonymous and that both are pawns of a bizarre and terrible destiny.
All the psychological effects, fear and so on, were transformed by Jacques Tourneur into nonhuman components of the picture as the girl waited for some noncorporeal manifestation of nature, culture, or history to gobble her up.
This film still seems to be one of Hollywood's original gems-nothing impure in terms of cinema, nothing imitative about its style, and little that misses fire through a lack of craft....
