Euophrys omnisuperstes is a small black jumping spider that lives at elevations of up to 6,700 meters on Mount Everest, making it possibly the highest known permanent resident on earth. They are known to lurk in crevices among rocky debris. Their diet remains a mystery; few explorers to Mount Everest have found any other significant signs of organic or plant life. It probably lives as a scavenger, feeding on insects that are transported up there by the wind and then freeze to death.
