The airline was established and started operations in 1971. It was founded by 4 pilots and diversified in 1972 by setting up a flying school, which in 1973 became the Piper Flying School in Europe. VIP, ambulance and express cargo charters were added later and in 1986 European Air Transport (EAT) was bought by integrator DHL to transport urgent shipments across Europe. It employs 600 staff. The airline has three hubs, Brussels, its main base of operation and home of the largest DHL sorting facility, Milan and Cologne.
