The European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) is a network of the most important industrial heritage sites in Europe. The aim of the project is to create interest for the common European Heritage of the Industrialization and its remains. ERIH also wants to promote regions, towns and sites showing the industrial history and market them as visitor attractions in the leisure and tourism industry. The – virtual – main route is built by the so-called Anchor Points. These are Industrial Heritage sites which are the historically most important and most attractive for visitors. In a first step the route leads through Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. Anchor Points are for example: - Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust (UNESCO-World Heritage Site) in Telford, Great Britain - industrial village Saltaire (UNESCO-World Heritage Site) near Bradford, Great Britain - Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, Great Britain - Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent, Great Britain - Heineken Experience exhibition in Amsterdam, the Netherlands - Dutch Textile Museum in Tilburg, the Netherlands - Industry and Railway Park Fond-de-Gras near Differdange, Luxembourg - Industrial Museum in Brandenburg an der Havel, Brandenburg Germany - Völklingen Ironworks (UNESCO- World Heritage Site), the Saar Germany - Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord, North Rhine-Westphalia Germany - Zollern II/IV Colliery in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia Germany - Historical and Technical Information Centre (HTI) in Peenemünde, Mecklenburg Western Pomerania Germany The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are based in the Ironbridge Gorge at Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale on the River Severn in Shropshire, England, widely considered as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. ...
