The European Union Satellite Centre (EUSC) was set up in 2002 in order to replace the Western Union Satellite Centre and thus represents a part of the transfer of functions from the Western European Union (WEU) to the European Union EU, and more specifically to the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), under whose auspices it's purpose is to gather information through satellite images to help the EU in preventing conflicts and providing humanitarian aid. The centre is in Torrejón de Ardoz in Spain. Other countries who have an association agreement with the EUSC can also use it's resources. 2002 is a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. ... Not to be confused with the European Union (EU), the Western European Union (WEU) is a partially dormant European defence and security organization composed of those states who were members of both NATO and the EU (except Denmark) before the latter expanded in June 2004. ...
