History

EUKL began as a division of British Rail. During the privatisation of that company its interests in Eurostar were vested in a new company, European Passenger Services (EPS). EPS was sold to London & Continental Railways (LCR) in 1996, who renamed it Eurostar (U.K.) Limited. Logo of British Rail British Railways (BR), later rebranded as British Rail, ran the British railway system from the nationalisation of the Big Four British railway companies in 1948 until its privatisation in stages between 1994 and 1997. ...


InterCapital and Regional Rail

Also in 1996 LCR was awarded the contract to build, own and operate the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL), a high-speed rail line linking the Channel Tunnel to London. In 1997 LCR encountered difficulties in financing the project and asked the government for help. In 1998 the Department of Transport gave finanical backing to the project in exchange for a major reorganisation. One part of this was the awarding of a management contract for EUKL.
