Euroway planned to open their service in mid 1991. However the first of two ships ordered from a shipyard in Croatia, where war just had broken out, was not delivered on time. It took until May 1992 before the ship was delivered and named M/S Frans Suell. On May 19 she made her first trip between Malmö - Travemünde - Lübeck. The stop in Travemünde was because Lübeck did not want any more car traffic in the city, so Euroway stopped there to let the cars drive off. Euroway's main target group was cruise and conference passengers so they did not take any trucks aboard. The start was difficult, it was for a long time unclear when the traffic would start and the marketing was bad.
In 1993 Sea Link AB was looking for a partner for Euroway, due to management problems and the economic situation in Europe. Silja Line joined Euroway, the company was now called Silja Line Euroway, their M/S Silja Festival was added as second ship on the route. In September the route is extended to Malmö - Copenhagen - Travemünde - Lübeck. The second ship (named M/S Frans Kockum) built at the Croatian shipyard is not taken over due to late delivery, it is instead sold to DFDS. On 12 March1994 the Euroway service was quit due to low passenger figures and Silja Lines financial problems.
