Synopsis

"Prelude to Destruction - Tick, Tick, Tick... "

The prelude to this storyline begins with Trish Tilby, BNBC reporter, reporting on the state of affairs of the island nation of Genosha. The interview features Genosha's history, the Genoshan civil war, the Legacy Virus and its effects upon the mutate population of Genosha, and the details of Magento's rulership of Genosha. In the fictional Marvel Universe, the Legacy Virus was a devastating plague that ripped through the mutant population, killing hundreds, and mutating so that it affected baseline humans as well, until it was cured almost overnight by the sacrifice of Colossus. ...

Dr. Henry McCoy is interviewed about the recent cure of the Legacy Virus and the possibility of Dr. Moira MacTaggert's involvement. The next feed shows Joanna Cargill, Genoshan ambassador of International mutant affairs, addressing the United Nations. She basically gives a statement that the other nations of the world, must fall in line, with Magneto's policies. The next segment came as a shocker, as Quicksilver was found on a Russian frigate. After the segment on Quicksilver, Magneto is ready to give his exclusive interview to BNBC. Magneto states that he's ready to end the conflict between mutants and humans. He cannont stand idle no longer, and watch mutants being treated unfairly. If need be, Magneto states that he's ready to wipe out normal humans. After Magneto's statement, Trisha announces a rally will be held in Magda Square, tomorrow. Trish speculates that Magneto will show off a symbol of impending war, a rally cry of sorts. Trish ends with the report on how far humanity has come as a species, that our destiney is to destroy each other.

Then we return to the X-Mansion, we see that Xavier didn't enjoy the rest of the broadcast, as he's no longer in the mansion. All that remains in the empty room, is a broken wall, rubble, and the remains of Xavier's hover chair.

Angry over Dazzler's death, the X-Men attack Magneto. Paulie was the first to attack Magneto, headstrong and without the support of the rest of the group. Magneto used his powers to lift Paulie into the air and attempt to remove the iron from his blood, but Paulie's invulnerability prevented this. Northstar used the opportunity to attack Magneto at super-speed, punching him hundreds of times. Cargill decided to attack Magneto next, but was easily restrained by metal pipes. Magneto then defeated Sunpyre after an intense power struggle. Hector then attempted to make a brave last stand against Magneto, getting a lucky break because Magneto physically grabbed him. Hector's transparent skin condition is transferred to whoever he is in physical contact with, and so Magneto's startled reaction allowed an opening in the battle. While Magneto disengaged and threw Hector far afield, he was struck by an optic blast-Cyclops and Wolverine managed to show up just in the nick of time.

Magneto was able to gather himself together and take out Cyclops. The battle reduced to a mano-a-mano between Magneto and Wolverine, Magneto held Wolverine in midair by his skeleton and prepared to again rip the adamantium from his bones, but discovered that he could not. Magneto then turned and saw that Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Amelia Voght had freed Xavier, who was telepathically restraining his powers.

Cyclops explained that the X-Men had to be creative against Magneto. Dazzler faked her death to pose, via hologram, as Xavier while Amelia freed the real Xavier. Wolverine punctuated the revelation by stabbing Magneto in the guts.

Xavier telepathically spoke to the nation of Genosha while holding the body of Magneto, leaving the future of Genosha in the hands of its people. Several guards attended to the injured Magento.
