Everett is the only city in the United States with a bicameral legislature, which is composed of a seven-member Board of Aldermen and an 18-member Common Council.

It is located at 42°24′36″N, 71°3′8″W (42.409916, -71.052206).[1] It is bordered by Malden on the north, Revere on the east, Chelsea on the southeast, Boston(which is only 5 miles away) and the Mystic River on the south, and Somerville and Medford on the west. Everett is 4 miles north of Boston. Glendale Park is the city's largest park. There were 15,908 housing units at an average density of 4,701.3/sq mi (1,817.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 79.71% White, 6.27% African American, 0.32% Native American, 3.25% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 4.99% from other races, and 5.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.51% of the population. Everett was an unsuccessful candidate for Vice President of the United States in the 1860 election on the Constitutional Union ticket.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts to the Rev. Oliver Everett and Lucy (Hill) Everett, he attended Boston Latin School and graduated as the valedictorian from Harvard University in 1811, studied theology under the urging of the Rev. Joseph Stevens Buckminster, and was ordained pastor of the Brattle Street Unitarian Church, Boston, in 1814.
Everett was a professor of Greek literature at Harvard University, an overseer of the University, and its president from 1846 to 1849.
