The song had already been released in an edited form, as a B-side on the single "Procession" in September of the same year. The B-sides for this release are "Cries and Whispers" and "Mesh"; the tracks being correctly identified on the label, but with their names in the wrong order on the sleeve. This led to their being misidentified on subsequent releases; for example the track identified as "Mesh" on the 2CD version of the Substance compilation is actually "Cries And Whispers". All three tracks appear on the cassette version of Substance.
