Evesham Technology is a computer company based in Evesham, Worcestershire, England. In its time, it has been known as "Evesham Micros", then briefly as "Evesham.com" and is today known as "Evesham Technology". The company was founded in 1983 by Richard Austin, who ccontinues as Chairman and controlling shareholder. This article is about the machine. ... In 1998, the company relocated to purpose built facilities at Vale Park. In 2002 it merged with Mertec, a South Wales based company. Until 2007, Evesham Technology employed more than 300 people and officially had 16 retail branches around the UK.


Its current product range includes Desktops, Laptops, Servers, Plasma and LCD displays, Media PC's and NAS servers.


It was a founding member of the PC Association and is one of the few key suppliers recommended by BECTA, the UK's educational ICT advisory organisation. Becta (the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) is an agency of Department for Education and Skills in the UK. In its capacity it oversees the procurement of all information and communications technology (ICT) equipment and e-learning strategy for schools. ...


Financial problems and restructure

In 2007 the company encountered a number of financial problems. In March 2007 the Evesham Journal reported that credit insurers pulled the plug on the firm, although the company continued to trade. [1]


Documents filed at Companies House on 26 June 2007, showed the resignations of four of the five company directors, and it was reported that the company was up for sale [2] [3]


In 3 August 2007, the company was thrown a lifeline of $22m by Time UK founder Tahir Mohsan[4] . It was also revealed that the company had gone into administration, with the UK Government's decision to end the Home Computer Initiative being blamed. [5] Time UK is a computer retailer set up by the people behind the failed Time Computer. ... The Home Computing Initiative (HCI) is a UK Government programme designed to increase home computing in the UK through a tax break. ...


A new company, GeeMore Technology Ltd, was formed to continue trading under the Evesham name whilst the majority of staff were made redundant and showrooms closed following the arrival of bailiffs. PC manufacture and support would be outsourced to India to reduce costs.
