Plot

The novel continued in the vein of Christie's earlier successes portraying the idle rich in a holiday setting.

It was set on an island at an exclusive hotel, whose guests include a glamorous actress who is shortly murdered. And Poirot, staying on the island, soon learns that nearly all of the guests had a connection to her. The 1982 film was directed by Guy Hamilton with a script adaptation by Anthony Shaffer that stayed fairly closely within the plotlines of Christie's work, but with scenes truncated for time constraints, the removal of minor characters, and the inclusion of some elements of humour that were not part of the original. The plot is close to, although not exactly the same as, the short story “Triangle at Rhodes” that was published in Murder in the Mews.
In the 1982 film, the setting is moved to a secluded resort frequented by the rich and famous in the Adriatic Sea (the action was in fact filmed in Majorca, Spain).
