Evinrude Outboard Motors is a maker of outboard boat motors, and was founded by Ole Evinrude. They were formerly owned by the Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), but are now owned by Bombardier Recreational Products. Ole Evinrude (1877 - 1934) was a U.S. inventor. ... Bombardier Recreational Products or BRP is a Canadian company, which was founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier as LAuto-Neige Bombardier Limitée in 1942 at Valcourt in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. ...
Bombardier moved 95% of the Johnson and Evinrudeoutboard production to the Sturtevant facility for better quality control - and did not reopen OMC plants in Waukegan, Ill., and on Milwaukee's northwest side where a combined 800 workers were employed.
In Sturtevant, Bombardier can produce an outboardmotor in about eight hours - compared with several days it previously took under the OMC system in which parts had to be shipped to Illinois and Wisconsin from OMC factories in Georgia and North Carolina.
Evinrudemotors are already being promoted as high-tech engines with an emphasis on power and speed, while Johnson motors are being promoted for their quality and reliability, Thompson said.
