Évry is a city in France, préfecture (capital) of the Essonne département. Postal code: 91000. Population (1999): 49,437.


Évry is located 27 kilometers southeast of Paris along the Seine River. Significant nearby towns include Corbeil-Essonnes, Ris-Orangis, Brétigny-sur-Orge, and Draveil. The Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques (INSEE) includes Evry in the Paris metropolitan area.


The Evry arrondissement contains 17 cantons, 52 communes, and has a population of 471,435. The city of Corbeil-Essonnes, which is the seat of a sub-préfecture, is nevertheless not the capital the arrondissement, and is part of Evry arrondissement.


The city of Evry is divided into two cantons of which it is the capital:

  • Evry-Nord, 2 communes, population 38,358
  • Evry-Sud, 3 communes, population 41,368

In 1965 Evry became part of the French new town initiative and took its current name. Before it was known as Évry-Petit-Bourg and had a population of only a few thousand.


Évry is also the name of a commune in the Yonne département in France.


Évry-Grégy-sur-Yerre is in the Seine-et-Marne département.
