According to Homer, the first known inhabitants of northern Evrytania were the Dolopes, who took part in the campaign against Troy.
During the Byzantine era, the people of Evrytania had the rare privileges of self-government and tax exemption.
For this reason the northern part of the district was also called "Agrafa", (unwritten), because the residents were not listed in the Imperial tax registers.
The subject of the Congress was “Evrytania: Prospects of Development†and was held under the aegis of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She insisted that Evrytania was not deserted at the time, on the contrary the still remaining monuments, such as the Proussos and Tatarna monasteries, and the temple of Episkopi, dated from the 13th century AD, give evidence of its acme.
The reduction of population is continuous, with the final conclusion that in the period 1940-1991 Evrytania lost a 50.49% of its population.
