ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter("Alien Encounter" for short) was an attraction that used to operate in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. It replaced Mission to Mars (attraction) in June of 1995. It was a walkthrough at first that featured "encounters" with alien puppets and then changed to a sit-down show in a circular room full of seats that centered around a large clear tube. An "alien" was then accidently beamed to earth in the tube and special effects in each person's chair made it seem like the alien was truly running free in the room when it escaped from the tube. The use of wind and water being sprayed on the audience in the dark made the ride seem very scary. There was a warning outside the ride at the entrance warning people that it was a scary ride and that small children should not be taken on it. Disneylands Tomorrowland logo as of 2005. ... AlienEncounter -- After the preshow, you are ushered into the "demonstration chamber", a theater-in-the-round with a huge teleportation device located in the center.
Suddenly, the outraged alien breaks through the glass tube and escapes into the laboratory (yes, where you are sitting).
AlienEncounter is part of the Magic Kingdom's Extra Magic Hour.
I visited WDW the year AlienEncounter open officially (after the changes were made) and was talking to a cast member who drove one of the horse-drawn trollies.
The Lights in AlienEncounter did indeed use to be robotic; I remember them moving to quickly and jerkily to be human.
This is to settle the thing about the catwalk in the demonstration chambers in "AlienEncounter." I am a cast Member that runs the attraction, and there is a real cast Member that shines a flashlight on the audience and also shines a red light on them for the infared camera footage.
