In latitude Europe extends from 36°00’N to 63°00’N. The main horizontal axis of Europe was meridian 45°12’N, considered the middle point between the Equator and the Pole.
The mouth of the Danube, identified with the point 45°12’N on the Western Axis of Egypt (29°50’E), was a paramount geodetic point.
Since the southern limit of Europe is to be identified with parallel 36°00’ N, it follows that Europe was understood to extend as far north of Danube as it does south of it.
