Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Eyghon the Sleepwalker is a possessing demon that can only manifest in this dimension by possessing an unconscious host. Temporary possession causes an euphoric sensation of power - or more simply "an extraordinary high", according to Giles. However, if the summoning rituals are not done correctly, the possession is permanent, a Eyghon is "born out from the host". When this happens, the host body is mutated: its forehead is covered with blue scales and the ears become pointed. Once summoned, Eyghon can also take possession of the dead, however the demon's essence causes the body to dissolve, forcing Eyghon to pass to the nearest dead or unconscious being. This will also happen if the life of the host is threatened. Eyghon was summoned by Rupert Giles, then "Ripper" and his friends: Ethan Rayne, Philip Henry, Deidre Page and Thomas Sutcliff and Randall (last name unknown). The six tattooed themselves with the Mark of Eyghon, a tattoo of Etruscan origin worn by Eyghon's initiates and which serves as a beacon light to attract Eyghon. During their sessions, one of the group would be put to sleep and the others would summon the demon. However, at one point, Randall lost control and Eyghon took full control of him. The others tried to exorcise him but only succeeded in killing Randall. Rupert Giles is a fictional character created by Joss Whedon for the television program, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ...

In late 1997, Eyghon resurfaced again to exact his revenge on those that had toyed with him. The first to die was Thomas Sutcliffe, followed by Deidre Page, who Eyghon took possession of to go after Philip Henri, who Eyghon killed and then possessed. Considering the short time in which Eyghon's host corpses dissolved, it is possible that Eyghon took possession of others before killing Deidre. Ethan and Giles were made aware of Eyghon's presence thanks to a number of visions that the demon sent him through the Mark. In the body of Philip, Eyghon attacked Giles at the library, but was captured. However, the demon escaped and knocked Jenny Calendar, leaving her unconscious. Philip's body dissolved and Eyghon jumped into Jenny, who was taken by Giles to his house. Once in there, Eyghon manifested and tried to kill Giles, but Buffy drove him away. Eyghon then went after Ethan and Buffy, who had been tattooed with the Mark by Ethan himself, who also destroyed his own tattoo with acid, hoping Eyghon would go after Buffy instead of him. Eyghon tracked and attacked them as Giles arrived, trying to make Eyghon spare Buffy. The demon turned to Giles and sent Buffy away telekinetically. As Eyghon tried to grab Giles, Angel barged in and attacked Eyghon. With Jenny's body in danger of death, Eyghon jumped into Angel's body. However, Eyghon met with Angel's inner demon, who viciously fought and drove Eyghon out.
