During the 17th century Tippu Sultan invaded North Kerala. The then Rajas & Brahmins eloped from North Malabar region and came over and settled seveal location in central Travancore. One of such family settled in a small land now called as Ezhumanthuruthu. Along with them one baby Goddess, called Devi BalaBhadra, accompanied which was unknown to them. During the "99" flood, affected all over Kerala, one great personality, popularly known as "Mundar Velu", noticed the presence of Devi in Poonkav. He immediately called the Tantriks and confirmed the presence of Devi. And started constructing the temple. It was said that the findings of Tantriks says the Goddess is so kind to young adolescent girls and takes care of their well-being and safe living. Young girls who worship her and offer the famous NeyyVilakku and Lemon Chain feel happy on them and expedite the process of their marriage.
