Frank Thomson ("Tom") Leighton is a professor of Applied Mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Theory of Computation group at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and co-founded Akamai Technologies with student Daniel Lewin. Leighton received his B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1978, and his Ph.D. from MIT in 1981. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. His brother David Leighton is a full professor at the University of Notre Dame, specializing in transport phenomena.
