F.C. Messina Peloro is an Italian football club based in Messina, Sicily. The club was formed in 1900. In 1996, due to financial problems, ACR Messina was relegated to the "Eccellenza" league by the federation. During this period a new club was formed called "FC Messina Peloro"; this new team currently plays in Italian Serie A, having returned there in 2004, their last Serie A appearance being in 1965. Messina had secured promotion by finishing 4th in the Serie B league in the 2003/04 season, one of six teams to be promoted to the top flight that year. The team's colors are red and yellow. After being many people's tip to be one of the teams relegated from Serie A in the 2004/05 season, Messina surprised many by producing several good results (the pick of which was a shock win at the San Siro against AC Milan) to stay clear of relegation throughout the whole season, and eventually finished in 7th place in the table, just a single place away from securing a UEFA Cup place. In the 2005/2006 season they were relegated from top division after Day 36 losing the derby against Reggina with the final results of 3-0. However, Messina may be escaped from relegation to Serie B due to Serie A scandal of 2006.
