The club was founded in 1935. It was called Spartak in 1935-37 and 1954-62, and Dynamo in 1938-53. In 1963 the club was renamed Ararat. The team played in the Soviet Top League in 1949-1950, 1960-1963, and 1965-1991. In 1973 Ararat won the championship and the Soviet Cup (in a memorable final game against Dynamo Kyiv). In 1971 and 1976 Spring (there were two Soviet championships in 1976 -- Spring and Fall) they were the league runners-up. Another Cup was won in 1975. In 1974-75, after their title in the Soviet league, FC Ararat Yerevan played in the European Cup, reaching the quarterfinals, losing to defending and future champion FC Bayern Munchen with a 2-1 aggregate (0-2 in Munich and 1-0 in Yerevan). 1935 (MCMXXXV) was a common year starting on Tuesday (link will take you to calendar). ...
