Encyclopedia > FIMO

FIMO is a name for a brand of polymer clay made by Eberhard Faber. Though other brands of polymer clay exist (Sculpey, Promat, Cernit, Friendly Clay, Formello, Modello) FIMO is the best known. Owing to this, FIMO was in danger of becoming a generic term for polymer clay. Eberhard Faber has introduced new forms of FIMO. The Fimo of the early 1990s is sometimes called classic FIMO. The clay is used for making many things, including jewelry, accessories, and small trinkets. Once shaped, the clay is baked in a standard or toaster oven for about 20-30 minutes to harden it. Once baked, the clay can be cut, drilled, painted, sanded, sliced thin. One use of Fimo is to make dollhouse food and accessories.
