Many versions of the British Heavyweight Championship exist in the independent circuit of the United Kingdom at any given time but the scene is usually dominated by one companies version.
Doug Williams would first defeat the then TWA British Heavyweight Champion, Justin Starr (though Starr would continue to be recognized as champion), before goin on to defeat The Zebra Kid in a tournament final to become Universal British Heavyweight Champion.
The Universal version of this title would not last long with all the promotions splitting out their British Heavyweight titles, but Williams continue to be recognized as the Universal British Heavyweight Champion.

The FWA British Heavyweight Championship is the heavyweight title contested for in the professional wrestling promotion, Frontier Wrestling Alliance.
On May 13, 2006 the FWA British Heavyweight Title belt was stolen from the Morecambe Dome immediately following the FWA event at the venue.
Robbie Brookside won the title at FWA Summer Classic in a no-DQ elimination three-way match finally pinning Jonny Storm after Hade Vansen, who was eliminated first, returned to the ring and gave Storm a South City Driller.
