Fabian Manning is a Newfoundland politician, and the Conservative candidate for the riding of Avalon in the 2006 Canadian election. Born in St. Bride's he served three terms on that town's council before being elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in 1993 as a Progressive Conservative. He first represented the riding of St.Mary's -The Capes, in 1996 he was defeated in the redistributed riding of Placentia and St. Mary’s, but was elected in 1999. In May 2005 he was ejected from the Progressive Conservative caucus when he publicly attacked the government's crab management policies. He thus sat as an independent for the rest of his term. In December 2005 Manning resigned his seat on the Legislature to pursue a federal seat. Avalon had previously been represented by John Efford, a Liberal cabinet minister, who had been elected by a wide margin in 2004. Without the powerful incumbent, however, the Conservatives hope to be able to take the seat. I think that Fabian Manning has an excellent shot of winning this riding, people in the riding will remember that he spoke up for them this past spring-going beyond party lines- during the crab dispute here in Newfoundland, that should be enough to get him in.
Fabian Manning is running for the CPC, whom is a high profile candidate than expected.
Manning has a record for representing his riding before his party while Efford has a reputation for representing his party instead of the people who elected him.
