Daily Peloton - Pro Cycling News (770 words)
Veteran sprinter Fabio Baldato has gone through a lot in the this autumn and winter.
Bruno Cenghialta, DS of the Alessio team, was the only person to continue to have faith in his abilities and Baldato repaid that faith in kind when he secured the overall victory of the race this afternoon.
Baldato is probably one of the best race captains in the peloton - and so effective was his control of the race he ended up as points winner as well, of course as race winner.
SI.com - Cycling - Baldato wins Giro stage after McEwen relegated - Sunday May 11, 2003 02:46 PM (811 words)
MATERA, Italy (AP) -- Veteran Fabio Baldato won the second stage of the Giro d'Italia Sunday after Australian champion Robbie McEwen, who had crossed the finish line first, was penalized by the race jury for an incorrect sprint.
Baldato's victory was his first since 1993 in Italy's most popular cycling race.
The Giro jury, quickly accepting Baldato's formal protest, moved the 35-year-old Italian of the Alessio team from second to first place after watching slow-motion television tapes of the group sprint.
