Fairchild AFB is a town located in Spokane County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,357.

Fairchild AFB is located at 47°36'47" North, 117°38'41" West (47.612955, -117.644796)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 16.8 km˛ (6.5 mi˛). 16.8 km˛ (6.5 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,357 people, 1,071 households, and 1,048 families residing in the town. The population density is 258.8/km˛ (670.2/mi˛). There are 1,114 housing units at an average density of 66.2/km˛ (171.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 78.20% White, 7.90% African American, 0.53% Native American, 3.56% Asian, 0.37% Pacific Islander, 3.79% from other races, and 5.67% from two or more races. 8.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,071 households out of which 72.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 90.8% are married couples living together, 4.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 2.1% are non-families. 1.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.36 and the average family size is 3.39.


In the town the population is spread out with 34.1% under the age of 18, 24.9% from 18 to 24, 38.3% from 25 to 44, 2.1% from 45 to 64, and 0.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 127.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 135.7 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $33,512, and the median income for a family is $33,398. Males have a median income of $22,299 versus $15,815 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,961. 5.0% of the population and 4.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.4% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Fairchild AFB - United States Nuclear Forces (995 words)
Fairchild Air Force Base is located 12 miles west of the city of Spokane, Washington adjacent to US Highway 2 and 3 miles north of Interstate 90.
Fairchild originated as the Spokane Army Air Depot in 1942 and was turned over to the United States Air Force (Strategic Air Command) in 1947.
On July 1, 1994, the 92nd Bomb Wing was redesignated the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, and Fairchild AFB was transferred from Air Combat Command (ACC) to Air Mobility Command (AMC), in a ceremony marking the creation of the largest air refueling wing in the Air Force.
