Fairfield is a census-designated place located in Adair County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 367.


Geography

Fairfield is located at 35°51'29" North, 94°36'58" West (35.857975, -94.616168)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.3 km˛ (3.6 mi˛). 9.3 km˛ (3.6 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 367 people, 118 households, and 96 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 39.5/km˛ (102.3/mi˛). There are 124 housing units at an average density of 13.3/km˛ (34.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 36.51% White, 0.00% African American, 49.05% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 14.44% from two or more races. 1.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 118 households out of which 44.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% are non-families. 16.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.11 and the average family size is 3.45.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 36.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.2 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $23,750, and the median income for a family is $26,667. Males have a median income of $23,000 versus $19,722 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $10,497. 25.5% of the population and 27.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.6% of those under the age of 18 and 21.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
