  • Parker Lewis Can't Lose was a TV show that aired from 1990-1993 where the main character was known for not losing (he only lost once throughout all 3 seasons). Pete Wentz's middle name is also Lewis.
  • The lyrics to the whole album are written by Patrick Stump, about how he felt in high school. On later albums, Pete Wentz took over primary lyric writing.
  • "Pretty in Punk" is a play on the title of the John Hughes movie, Pretty in Pink.
  • This is the only Fall Out Boy album not featuring Andy Hurley on drums and Patrick Stump on rhythm guitar.
  • The photograph on the cover of this album was shot in Chicago's Pick Me Up Café located at 3408 N. Clark Street.

  • Contrary to popular belief, which were due to differences in Patrick Stump's voice, Pete Wentz did not in fact sing lead vocals in any songs on the album. On the Fall Out Boy official site Q&A, he says that it is indeed Patrick singing, with a quip about puberty arriving late in the mail. However, it was later confirmed that a man by the name of Max Izzo sang the opening verse of "Honorable Mention".
  • The songs "Switchblades and Infidelity", "Growing Up", and "Moving Pictures" were originally from their Split EP with Project Rocket.
  • "Calm Before the Storm" was later re-recorded for Take This to Your Grave.
  • In the iTunes version of the album, the (For Five Tired Boys in a Broken Down Van) and (But I'm Gonna Give it My Best Shot) is not included in "The World's Not Waiting" and "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" title, also, the iTunes remastered version somehow cut off a minute and eleven seconds of "Switchblades and Infidelity".
