Falls Township is a township located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 34,865.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 68.8 km˛ (26.6 mi˛). 57.7 km˛ (22.3 mi˛) of it is land and 11.1 km˛ (4.3 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 16.11% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 34,865 people, 13,170 households, and 9,403 families residing in the township. The population density is 604.2/km˛ (1,565.0/mi˛). There are 13,528 housing units at an average density of 234.4/km˛ (607.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the township is 90.22% White, 4.89% African American, 0.16% Native American, 2.58% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.77% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 2.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 13,170 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.15.


In the township the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.


The median income for a household in the township is $50,129, and the median income for a family is $57,033. Males have a median income of $41,200 versus $30,117 for females. The per capita income for the township is $22,376. 5.5% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.9% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The County Court of Hunterdon County was at times held alternately at Maidenhead (Lawrenceville) and at Hopewell, but as that was found to be inconvenient, in March 1719, the governor ordered that the courts be held in Trenton, and in 1724 it was enacted that the Supreme Court for Hunterdon County be held here.
He was one of the judges of Hunterdon County in 1782, and from 1785 to 1788 was a member of Council and vice-president of that body during the entire term, acting in the capacity of the governor in the absence of that official.
William M. Lanning was born in Ewing Township in 1849 and after graduating from the Lawrenceville High School in 1866 was a teacher in the public schools of Trenton and Mercer County until 1880, when he was admitted to the Bar as an attorney.
