The company, located in the Maple Leaf neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, was founded in 1976 by Gary Groth and Mike Catron. Kim Thompson joined the company not long after meeting Groth, then in College Park, Maryland, in the summer of 1977, and the two became co-owners.
