Encyclopedia > Fantomas (band)

Fantômas is an Alternative Metal (dubbed dada-metal by one [1] (http://www.fantomas-lives.com/)) band formed by singer Mike Patton, guitarist King Buzzo, bass guitarist Trevor Dunn and drummer Dave Lombardo. Patton named the group after Fantômas, a villain featured in a series of crime novels popular in France before World War I.

Fantômas are unique in several ways: Patton rarely sings conventional lyrics with the group, preferring his own bizarre style of voice music or scat singing. They have also recorded an album of motion picture theme music.

Fantômas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1575 words)
This Fantomas was a thief who committed spectacular robberies just for the thrill of it, and wore a white, skintight mask all the time or a variety of disguises so his true face was never shown.
Apparently the series was strongly influenced by the James Bond movies, as Fantomas, equipped with advanced technology created by a scientist called Professor Semo, had all kind of adventures around the World, and even fought other, more cruel criminals.
His mask in the comic book was clearly inspired by the fl mask worn by the Italian comic book criminal Diabolik, and his use of it was apparently influenced by the popular images generated by Mexican wrestling.
