The Far Eastern Republic (Russian: Дальневосто́чная Респу́блика (ДВР)) was a government established in the Russian Far East and Siberia east of Lake Baikal on April 6, 1920. It was created for the reasons of external politics, as a "buffer state" between the RSFSR and the territories of the Far East occupied by Japan. Although nominally independent, it was mostly controlled by RSFSR.
The Republic issued a number of postage stamps during its brief existence. Initially it overprinted stamps of Russia, then issued its own designs. Large numbers of these were produced, and are readily available today, although genuine usages on cover are seldom seen.
Russian FarEast (Russian: Д́альний Вост́ок Росс́ии; English transliteration: Dalny Vostok Rossii) is an informal term that refers to the Russian part of the FarEast, i.e., extreme south-east parts of Russia, between Siberian Federal District and the Pacific Ocean.
The Russian FarEast basically corresponds to the territories of Amur Oblast, Chukotka, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Kamchatka Oblast, Koryakia, Khabarovsk Krai, Magadan Oblast, Primorsky Krai, Sakha (Yakutia) Republic, and Sakhalin Oblast.
The Russian FarEast should not be confused with Siberia, which does not stretch all the way to the Pacific.
