Farman Aviation Works was an aeroneutic enterprise founded and run by the brothers Henry and Maurice Farman. They designed and constructed aircraft since 1908 until 1936. In 1941 they rebuilt it as "Société Anonyme des Usines Farman" (SAUF), which latelly disolved in 1956. The Farman brothers constructed more than 200 types of aircraft between 1908 and 1941. Farman trained as a painter at the École des Beaux Arts, but quickly become obsessed with the new mechanical inventions that were rapidly appearing at the end of the 19th century.
He was made a chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1919 and retired in 1937 when the French government nationalized the aircraft industry.
Henry Farman died in Paris and is buried in the Cimetière de Passy in Paris.
