Jack Phillips

Jack Phillips was born in Farncombe. He continued working as the ship sank, trying to contact other ships that might be able come to the assistance of the Titanic.[3] Phillips is commemorated by the Phillips Memorial Garden in Godalming, and a memorial in the St. John the Evangelist Church in Farncombe. Farncombe's most important appointment outside Britain was that of chief conductor of the historic Royal Court Theatre at Drottningholm, Stockholm, from 1968 to 1979, where he helped to bring that remarkably preserved baroque theatre to working life.
In 1963 Farncombe married the American violinist Sally Mae Felps, who was a constant support and a lively front-of-house presence at his performances until her premature death from cancer in 2003.
