== Feather Bonnet ==

The Feather Bonnet is a type of headdress used mainly by the Highland Regiments throughout the 18th Century, but now it is mostly worn by Pipers and Drummers in various bands throughout the world.

History The history of the feather bonnet begins with the Tam o'shanter bonnet. This was propped up and worn with a hackle. Along with the hackle, during the 1700s, the highlanders who wore this hat began to add feathers to decorate it. These ostrich feathers that began as a simple one for decoration, evolved into a fully covering of the propped up Tam o'shanter. The ostrich feathers were then intwined into a lightweight cage, producing the height. This feather bonnet was used extensively throught the Highland Regiments.
