The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (in German: Bundeskriminalamt (BKA); other translations: Federal Criminal Police Bureau, Federal Criminal Office, Federal Criminal Bureau) is the federalpolice of Germany, comparable to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States, French National Police in France, or the Australian Federal Police in Australia. Its responsabilites are the coordanion of law enforcement in cooperation with criminal police offices of the individual states of Germany (these police offices are known as Landeskriminalamt (plural Landeskriminalämter)) and to conduct investigations in especially heavy crimes, especially those where other countries play a role. The BKA is also responsible for the cooperation with Interpol. It is headquartered in Wiesbaden, with further seats in Berlin and Meckenheim. The BKA is subordinated to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and had almost 5,000 employees in 2004.
