The International Olympic Committee, the International Federations and the National Olympic Committees, the three Olympic Pillars, and all other groups with similar interests, are called to collaborate toward the development of sport and the spreading of the values conveyed by the fundamental principles of the Olympic Spirit.
These programmes cover areas that are essential to the development of sport, with precisely defined objectives: to heighten athlete competitiveness, to increase feed-back in the aim of improving the general framework of sport, to professionalize NOC management and to further the Olympic Spirit throughout the world by stimulating social development through sport.
The FederationInternationaledeGymnastique (FIG) was formed on 23 July 1881 when representatives of the Gymnastics association of Belgium, France and the Netherlands met in Liege.
As a governing body it is held in high esteem by both its member federations and gymnastics clubs throughout five continents.
However, when the USA was admitted in 1921, the Committee changed its name to the FederationInternationaledeGymnastique or FIG, as it is known today.
