The Federation of Arab Republics (1972-1977) were a brief union of Libya, Egypt, and Syria.



It is not to be confused with the United Arab Republic (1958-1961) which was a somewhat longer union in the mid 1950's of Egypt and Syria. Egypt still styles itself the UAR. The United Arab Republic (UAR) was a country that existed as a union between the republics of Egypt and Syria between 1958 and 1961; though Egypt continued to be known as the UAR until 1970. ... According to Theophylaktos Simokattes, Uar, along with the Hunnoi, are the names associated with the two biggest tribes of Procopiuss White Huns. They were called Varkhon or Varkunites (Ouarkhonitai) by Menander, perhaps inspired by the name of the God Vulcan, and settled Europe in the Balkans and Pannonia. ...
