Cosí Federico Gozi e Marino Fattori accolsero nei locali della biblioteca, in palazzo Valloni, i primi doni degli amici di Luigi Cibrario: il cavalier Alfredo Reichmann e il cavalier Gaetano Speluzzi, entrambi milanesi.
Sembra che il primo vero acquisto fatto per incrementare il museo sia dovuto a Federico Gozi nel 1872: si tratta di un bronzetto romano rinvenuto a Montecucco, pagato con un fondo speciale del Governo.
Dal 1894, appunto, Marino Fattori e Federico Gozi lavorarono alacremente per dare un nuovo assetto alla biblioteca e al museo, che nel frattempo avevano ricevuto altri doni importanti.
