History
Feet of Flames was created in 1998 by dance master Michael Flatley, of Lord of the Dance fame. First created for Flatley's last show as the "Lord of the Dance", the show was a one off event in London's Hyde Park — The Historic Route of Kings on July 25 1998. An audience of twenty-five thousand people gathered that night to witness this once in a lifetime event. The show itself is much like its predecessor, Lord of the Dance. However Feet of Flames doubles the dancers, adds new numbers, and a new stage with multi level tiers for the dancers, along with the new numbers is Flatley's solo — "Feet of Flames", which the show is based around. The show introduced some of the key elements that are now featured when Flatley performs. His silver-heeled shoes made by Freed's of London were used for the first time in this show. TV screens on both sides of the stage were also installed and now used in all the shows that feature Flatley. That night Michael Flatley steped off the stage for what was thought to be the last time. The Hyde Park show was later distributed on VHS and DVD. After 18 months away from the stage, Michael Flatley announced he was back — on September 21 1999. That day he announced that there was going to be a Feet of Flames world tour in 2000. The 2000 world tour was very different, the show actually changed at least 50% from the original version in 1998. The show now had new numbers, new leads, a new story line and a "whole new outlook" in the words of Flatley. The 2000 tour began on Wednesday, March 1st. 2000, in Germany. The World Tour had new leads. Both the original female leads Bernadette Flynn and Gillian Norris were replaced by Sarah Clarke and Leigh Ann McKenna. Also the role of the Dark lord was changed, first played by Daire Nolan in 1998 the role for the world tour went to Stephen Brunning. Both Daire Nolan and Gillian Norris went on to pursue their own carrers after the 1998 show. Bernadette Flynn went to go dance with Lord of the dance troupe one until 2001. The Highlight of the 2000 tour was Flatley and the Troupe preforming in Budepest to over 100,000 people. A true dream come true for Michael Flatley. The 2000 World Tour(Europe) concluded on July 29 2000 in Stormont Castle, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Stormont Castle is now the official residence of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and was previously the location of the Cabinet Room of the Government of Northern Ireland from 1921-1972. ...
