Encyclopedia > Felt (band)

Felt were a 1980s UK indie band, led by Lawrence Hayward (known simply as Lawrence, his full name was never listed in any record credits), and included guitarist Maurice Deebank for the first half of the band's existence, keyboard player Martin Duffy who essentially replaced Deebank, and drummer Gary Ainge, the only constant member besides Lawrence. The band released ten albums and ten singles in ten years. After firmly establishing themselves on the indie scene, Felt recruited the services of Robin Guthrie as producer for their album, 'Ignite the Seven Cannons' which remains one of the group's most popular albums (although it apparently left Deebank unimpressed). Guthrie's most notable influence is arguably heard in the single "Primitive Painters", which offers the listener a Guthrie infused 'sonic cathedral of sound.' Torb and Reiner millinery - History of felt (1266 words)
Felt has been used for producing headwear for many centuries and is perhaps the oldest textile material.
In the 18th Century Beaver Felt was still the preferred material for headwear, although a mixture of felts, beaver and wool, beaver and fur felt, became increasingly popular for the less expensive hats.
Hats made from Beaver felt were to see a marked decline in the mid 1800s and gradually became replaced by the silk hat, followed by fur felt hats and wool felt hats.
Denim (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (229 words)
Denim are the brainchild of the frontman of 1980s post-punk outfit Felt, Lawrence Hayward (more commonly known as just 'Lawrence').
A single, "Summer Smash", was to have been released in the summer of that year, but despite promotional copies being distributed, it was not released - supposedly due to the death of Princess Diana in a car crash the week it should have been in the shops[1].
