Encyclopedia > Fence Collective

Fence Collective (we could use the term loose here, but you know that already - see every article written about Fence) collective of musicians based in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife affiliated to the Fence record label. Acts are often dubbed nu-folk by the press, who have quite clearly never heard them. On a more fashion-led tip, the micro-genre "toorie-rock" was coined in deference to the protagonists' love of the wooly bunnet. Anstruther (Enster in Scots)is a small town in Fife, Scotland. ... The East Neuk or East Neuk of Fife is a geographically ill-defined area of the coast of Fife, Scotland, which none-the-less stirs local passions. ... KT Tunstall, HMS Ginafore, MC Quake and The Beta Band , have also been involved. Also amino people, Kunt's premier near-invisible band. Fans of A-Ha and Dexy's Midnight Runners will love this lot. Fence fans, known as 'beef botherers', are known to resort to low level dadaism as a means of menial stimulation whilst being able to distinguish a calabrese from a broccoli at 100 yards. King Creosote shot to fame in the early eighties with his sunshine band, however drink and drugs kicked in, resulting in a lack of chart hits and a change of tack - KC changing the name of his band to the coconuts and releasing low quality calypso tunes. ... Save The Fence Collective's 'Homegame' Petition (224 words)
We, the undersigned, call on Fife Council's Department of Community Services to reverse the recent decision denying the Fence Collective permission to use Anstruther's Erskine Hall as the principal venue for their 'Homegame' music festival in Spring 2006.
People attending the Fence Collective's 'Homegame' festival are grateful to the town that is their host for the three days of the event, and are quiet and respectful of Anstruther's residents.
The Fence Collective's festival would not be the same if it was held anywhere other than their hometown; we ask that Fife Council take our views into account when considering the future of this event.
