FerntreeGully is 35 km east of Melbourne along the Burwood Highway.
Other nature reserves are Ambleside Park at 3 Olivebank Rd, FerntreeGully Recreation Area on the highway and, at the corner of Dorset Rd and Frances Crescent, Tim Neville Arboretum which features a botanical garden with lakes, an amphitheatre, a secret garden and art installations.
The south-western section, covering 450 ha, is known as FerntreeGully which was named after an 1860 painting of the local forest.
