England is the largest Home Nation, permanently settled since the Stone Age and the setting for the UnitedKingdom's cultured and cosmopolitan capital of London.
Like the rest of the UnitedKingdom, the pubs of Northern Ireland are located in some of the country's most historic buildings, and its culture is based in music and the arts.
The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, although not officially part of the UnitedKingdom, still pledge their allegiance to the Queen and are popular resort and spa destinations.
The idea of establishing a festival dedicated to Joseph Haydn's 25 year employment at the famous Esterházy Palace at Eszterháza (now belonging to the city of Fertod) in Western Hungary (in the vicinity of Sopron and the Austrian border) came from the members of the Hungarian Haydn Society, including musicians, heritage experts and concert organizers.
The Festival concerts are held in August and part of September in either a 12th-century church or in the town's 18th-century church, which also houses an organ built in 1794.
This festival is characterized by the rigorous selection of its repertoire and of the artists invited to take part on it -a combination of experienced ensembles and talented young musicians-, and has become a solid reference in the world of the early music.
