Stravinsky composed Feu d'artifice for Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, on the occasion of his daughter's wedding. Rimsky-Korsakov unfortunately died before the work's premiere, and was never able to hear it. Feu d'artifice helped develop Stravinsky's reputation as a composer, although it is not considered representative of the his mature work. Alexander Ziloti conducted the premiere in 1909.
